Update: October 2011
Li Jie does not have much progress during the month. She is holding to practice sitting up for half an hour in the afternoon, now she can sit by herself without support for a few seconds. Most time she would be OK with the practice, but she was not happy in the same position occasionally and fussy with it. For her development, we are controlling it within the limitation of the time, not to cause her upset, as she would cry without stopping once she was not happy.
Her height is 81cm; weight:8.5kg, no change from the last month.
Update: September 2011
Li Jie’s arms and legs are still stiff from time to time, not much improvement, she can not chew, and no she has no bowel and bladder control. She will smile with her pair of curved eyes when she is at rest. She loves being quite sometimes, and would be fussy if too much activities, sometimes for reason only she knows. She is doing well in the month, and putting on a little weight.

Update: September 2009
Li Jie "JieJie" still has a feeding problem. She can only eat if she is in a certain position; you must lay her down and put the food in her mouth. It takes at least 30 minutes to feed her. She rarely asks for food and does not seem to have a good appetite.
Update: June 2009
Li Jie (Zhang Jie) now has chubby cheeks, although her biggest problem is swallowing food. She cries all during her feedings, so the nannies must be very careful that she does not choke on her food. She continues to have seizures. Her hands were tightly clinched, so the nannies have been working with her to relax them. While she seems happy to be at the Center, she will cry if she sees that she is alone. Currently, her weight is 6.5kg; height is 64cm; head circumference 39cm; and chest 46cm.
Update: February 2009
Li Jie (Zhang Jie) is doing better now. She likes to be held up, and sit on the nannies legs. She is still shaking occasionally and Dr. Frank is watching this closely.
Update: October 2008
Zhang Yu was brought to our attention by Jennifer Clements who is living in Siping with her husband who teaches at Jilin University. She knew of Zhang Yu because she volunteers to help out at the Siping SWI.
Zhang Yu has not yet had a complete medical exam but the orphanage says she has suffered some type of brain damage and her brain is not developing normally. As soon as we have a definitive diagnosis we will post it here.
She is a beautiful little girl and we hope she gets a definitive diagnosis so we will know how to help her.
