Meningocele
Siping Center
January 22, 2007
Wang Tao arrived at the Center on January 22, 2007 with a meningocele at the base of his neck. Generous donors provided the funds for the surgery. You can scroll to the bottom of the screen to see the meningocele before surgery.
Update: January 2010
Wang Tao is now avaiable for adoption. Click Here to go to his page at the Waiting Children section. If you are not logged in you may be requested to log in.
Update: September 2009
Wang Tao is the biggest one; he is a tall boy. He cannot walk with stability, but he can move as far as three steps! He is the sweetest one who will always give you a kiss when you ask him, or when he is in trouble and you say, "TaoTao, why did you do that?", he will come to you with a big smile and kiss you so you will forget what he has done wrong! It is hard to put him in the time-out chair after that!
Update: June 2009
Wang Tao is always the happy boy at the Center. He came to the Center almost two and a half years ago. He is a tough little guy, who has come through his meningocele surgery well. He has problems with his balance, and when he sits down heavily, he will laugh it off. He is a hard-working little one, who tries his best to overcome his mobility problems. He practices walking every day and always gets back up and tries again if he falls. He has learned to say "Mama", "give", "baby", and a few other words. Currently, his weight is 11.6kg; height is 90cm; head circumference 51cm; and chest 63cm.
Update: February 2009
Wang Tao is the biggest and strongest boy but when he calls the nanny Moma, his voice is so tender and soft. He is still the funniest one and insists on standing up against the wall to strenthen his legs. He loves receiving phone calls and would say in his little voice, Mama.
Update: October 2008
Wang Tao is delayed both in language and motor skills. He is now one year and nine months old, and is not yet walking. He can say a few words. Tao is a happy and funny little guy. He will try so hard to work something out. He will practice standing up while holding on to a bar on the wall until he is so tired he will become fussy. The nannies will have to help him to rest because he will not give up by himself. We know it will just take him some time to learn to walk. He eats and sleeps well. He is very open and friendly to everyone.
My son, Jack, was born w/ this same diagnosis. He has NO NEUROLOGICAL impairment whatsoever. He didn't have surgery on his neck til he was 3. Check him out at http://www.raisinnuts.com -- he's 9 and smarter than anyone I know.
